The Columbia Journalism Review’s Gun Violence News Summit united 200+ journalists around The Inevitable News, a newspaper covering every mass shooting in the last three years through a single article. Built from patterns found across 2,000+ mass shooting stories, the project exposed the repetitive nature of gun violence reporting and challenged the industry to rethink how these tragedies are covered.

To drive participation, ten editions replicating America’s most influential newspapers were distributed outside major newsrooms as invitations to the summit. The initiative led to the Gun Violence Coverage Commitment, a new standard for responsible reporting adopted by more than 300 newspapers nationwide.
